How we build it

The part you never see is the part that lasts.

01

Start at the coping

The coping sets the line for everything else. We set it first — level, square to the water, coordinated with the pool contractor’s bond beam and tile.

02

A reinforced, drained base

The deck sits on a reinforced concrete base that sheds water to drains or lawn — never back toward the pool or the house.

03

Movement joints

Slabs move with the seasons. Joints at the coping and across large fields let them move without cracking the stone.

04

Set by hand

Bluestone in a full mortar bed; outdoor porcelain on a bonded bed made for it — every piece leveled to its neighbor.

05

Finish & clean

Joints packed and tooled, edges eased where bare feet will walk, and the deck cleaned for the first swim.

The stone

Chosen to outlast the house.

  • Thermal bluestone — an even, textured surface that grips underfoot
  • Outdoor porcelain — large-format 2 cm pavers with a slip-resistant finish, in tones from stone to Italian marble
  • Bluestone coping — eased or bullnosed, the edge you hold and sit on

Questions

Before you commission.

Porcelain or natural stone around a pool?

Both work beautifully. Thermal bluestone is natural and timeless; outdoor porcelain is consistent, stain-resistant and comes in lighter tones. We bring samples of both to the site visit.

Is porcelain slippery when wet?

Not the right one. We use porcelain made for pool decks, with a textured, slip-resistant finish — never polished indoor tile.

Will the deck be hot in summer?

Lighter stone stays cooler. Dark bluestone runs hot in full sun; lighter porcelain and lighter natural stone are kinder to bare feet.

Can you replace the coping on our existing pool?

Often, yes. We check the bond beam first, and coordinate with your pool contractor for the waterline tile and anything structural.
