Pool decks, hillside staircases, fieldstone fireplaces — McLean holds more of Edgar’s Northern Virginia work than any other town. Every commission below was hand-set by his crew on a reinforced, drained base.
Real projects, photographed on site. Every one hand-set by Edgar’s crew on a reinforced, drained base.

Watch: Italian Ceramic Pool Build — a walk-through of a McLean pool we built.
The pool deck is the least forgiving surface we build. Bare feet, splash, and freeze-thaw — on stone that has to stay dead level against the coping. We set thermal-finished bluestone for its even, slip-resistant texture, wet-set on a reinforced concrete base so nothing settles at the water’s edge.
Many McLean lots fall away from the house. On a slope, a terrace or a stair is only as good as what holds the grade behind it. We build the base and the drainage first, then step the stone with the land instead of fighting it — the way the hillside staircase above was set.
We dig to solid ground and build a reinforced, drained base.
Each stone is measured and cut on the wet saw to its exact place.
Every stone is bedded in mortar, not sand — hand-fit and leveled.
Caps and edges set true by hand — the finish that locks it together.
A clean site, an honest timeline, and a five-year warranty in writing — ten years on the base.
Yes. Repairing and extending existing stonework is regular work for us. We source stone to match color and thickness, and rebuild the base wherever the old one failed — a patch on a failed base fails again.
Winter. We set stone in mortar, which has to cure above freezing, so most clients reserve their place over the winter and start when the weather turns. Spring dates are limited by how many projects Edgar can lead personally.
Yes. We build to the drawing — elevations, joints, radii and coursing set as specified — and we work quietly inside the wider project schedule.
Edgar leads every project personally, with lead masons who hold his standard. You will not meet a salesperson and never see us again.
We also work in Great Falls, Tysons, Vienna, Falls Church and Arlington — and across D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. See our work in Potomac · Falls Church · Arlington · Washington, D.C.
Edgar personally walks every site before a single figure is written. Estates are accepted by private consultation — a limited number each season.
