The local standard

Outdoor living, built like architecture.

A stone fireplace is a structure, not a veneer project. It needs its own footing, a true firebox, and a chimney that draws. We build it from the ground up — which is why a three-story chimney and a pavilion fireplace sit on the same list as the patios around them.

Curves are where craft shows. A wave wall or a circle patio cannot be faked with straight cuts and wide joints. Each stone is measured and cut on the wet saw to its exact place, so the line holds from the first stone to the last.

How it’s built

The part you never see is the part that lasts.

01

Excavate & reinforce

We dig to solid ground and build a reinforced, drained base.

02

Cut & shape

Each stone is measured and cut on the wet saw to its exact place.

03

Wet-set

Every stone is bedded in mortar, not sand — hand-fit and leveled.

04

Cap & level

Caps and edges set true by hand — the finish that locks it together.

05

Stand behind it

A clean site, an honest timeline, and a five-year warranty in writing — ten years on the base.

Questions from Potomac homeowners

Before you commission.

Do you build complete outdoor kitchens?

We build the stone: the base, the walls, the counters and the fireplace. Gas, electrical and appliances are installed by the specialists for those trades — we coordinate with them so the stonework is ready for every line.

Can a fireplace be added to an existing patio?

Often, once Edgar confirms what is underneath. A fireplace needs its own footing; we do not stack masonry on a slab that was never built to carry it.

What stone suits a Potomac estate?

Blue Select bluestone for a dense, refined, cool-toned surface; full-range Pennsylvania flagstone for warm earth tones; natural fieldstone for walls and chimneys that look like they grew there. Edgar walks you through samples on site.

When should we reserve a spring start?

Over the winter. Mortar has to cure above freezing, so spring is when most projects begin — and Edgar takes a limited number each season.

We also work in North Potomac, Darnestown, Travilah, Bethesda and Cabin John — and across D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. See our work in McLean · Falls Church · Arlington · Washington, D.C.

Final Folio — The Commission

Commission the stone that outlives you.

Edgar personally walks every site before a single figure is written. Estates are accepted by private consultation — a limited number each season.
