Edgar Stone Masonry  /  How a Commission Works
How a Commission Works

From first call to final walk.

Seven steps, every one in writing — led personally by Edgar from the site walk to the Certificate of Commission.

The commission

Seven steps. No surprises.

How a project moves from a phone call to a finished terrace — and what you’ll have in writing at every stage.

01

The callDay one

Call or text the office at (202) 525-7884, or send the estimate form. We’ll ask for the address, what you have in mind and your timing — and set the site walk.

02

The site walkScheduled with you

Edgar personally walks every site before a single figure is written. He reads the grade, the drainage, the access and the stone already there, and brings samples so you see them against your own house.

03

The proposalAfter the walk

A written proposal: the scope, the stone, the price, the payment schedule, approximate start and completion dates, and the warranty. It’s signed electronically — nothing rests on a handshake.

04

Your place in the calendarOn signing

A signed proposal and deposit reserve your start window. If your project needs a permit, you’ll already know — Edgar tells you on the site walk, before you sign.

05

The buildIn season

Edgar’s crew builds it, start to finish. The base and the drainage first — the part you’ll never see — then the stone, set by hand and leveled one piece at a time.

06

The final walkOn completion

We walk every stone with you. The final invoice follows the final walk — not the other way around.

07

The certificate & the warrantyYours to keep

Every completed commission receives a numbered Certificate of Commission and the Edgar Warranty in writing: five years on the stone, ten on the base — transferable to the next owner.

In writing

What you’ll hold.

  • The proposal — scope, stone, price and schedule, signed electronically
  • The payment schedule — deposit, progress and final
  • Certificate of insurance — on request, before work begins
  • The Edgar Warranty — five years on the stone, ten on the base
  • The Certificate of Commission — numbered, for the house’s record
Before you call

Worth reading first.

Final Folio — The Commission

Commission the stone that outlives you.

Edgar personally walks every site before a single figure is written. Estates are accepted by private consultation — a limited number each season.
