Lots measured in acres. Houses set back on wooded slopes. Great Falls asks for terraces, walls and stairs that work with the land — the same work we’ve built across the line in McLean, every stone hand-set by Edgar’s crew.
Real projects, photographed on site — each labeled with the town where it stands. Every one hand-set by Edgar’s crew on a reinforced, drained base.

Watch: Italian Ceramic Pool Build — a walk-through of a pool we built in McLean, next door to Great Falls.
Know where the drain field is. Many Great Falls homes run on well and septic. Before we draw a terrace or a drive, we locate the septic field and its reserve area — stone, concrete and heavy equipment have no place over either.
Slopes are the rule, not the exception. A terrace or a stair on a wooded slope is only as good as the wall and the drainage behind it. Fairfax County requires a permit for a residential retaining wall that holds back more than three feet of earth, and treats anything over four feet as an engineered, commercial-grade wall. We tell you on the site walk which side of that line your wall falls.
We dig to solid ground and build a reinforced, drained base.
Each stone is measured and cut on the wet saw to its exact place.
Every stone is bedded in mortar, not sand — hand-fit and leveled.
Caps and edges set true by hand — the finish that locks it together.
A clean site, an honest timeline, and a warranty in writing on every job.
It shapes where we build. We locate the drain field and its reserve area first and keep stone, footings and machines clear of both.
In Fairfax County, a residential wall that holds back more than three feet of earth needs a permit, and over four feet it becomes an engineered wall. Edgar tells you on the site walk.
Yes — it’s some of our favorite work. The hillside staircase above was terraced into the grade with landings, not fought against it.
Over the winter. Large Great Falls projects are often drawn first through The Design Commission, then built when the ground thaws.
