Stone masonry in Alexandria, old town to new.

A paver driveway framed in brick with a stone wall behind it — that one’s in Alexandria. The rest of the work below stands nearby in Arlington and Falls Church, and all of it was hand-set by Edgar’s crew on a reinforced, drained base.

The local standard

Brick, stone and history.

Old Town has its own review. In the Old and Historic Alexandria District, exterior work visible from the street can require approval from the City’s Board of Architectural Review before it begins. We plan front walks, steps and walls with that in mind — materials and details that belong on the block.

Driveways carry weight on their edges. A paver or cobble drive lasts when its borders are set in concrete on a compacted base — brick or Belgian block holding the line under every turn of the wheel. The drive above was built exactly that way.

How it’s built

The part you never see is the part that lasts.

01

Excavate & reinforce

We dig to solid ground and build a reinforced, drained base.

02

Cut & shape

Each stone is measured and cut on the wet saw to its exact place.

03

Wet-set

Every stone is bedded in mortar, not sand — hand-fit and leveled.

04

Cap & level

Caps and edges set true by hand — the finish that locks it together.

05

Stand behind it

A clean site, an honest timeline, and a warranty in writing on every job.

Questions from Alexandria homeowners

Before you commission.

Do we need approval for work in Old Town?

Exterior changes visible from the street in the historic district can require review by the City’s Board of Architectural Review. We help you prepare what the City needs.

Can you match old brick or stone?

Usually. We source reclaimed or matching brick and stone, and rebuild the base wherever the old one failed.

Do you build paver and Belgian block driveways?

Yes — borders, aprons and full motor courts, set in concrete with a backing haunch so the edge never walks.

When should we book for spring?

Over the winter. Spring dates go to the clients who reserve first.

We also work in Arlington, Del Ray, Old Town, Fairlington and Falls Church — and across D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. See our work in McLean · Potomac · Falls Church · Arlington · Washington, D.C. · Bethesda · Chevy Chase · Great Falls · Vienna
