Edgar Stone Masonry  /  Fountains & Water Features
Services · Fountains & Water Features

Fountains and water features, set in stone.

A fountain at the center of terraced walls. A stream-fed koi garden. Water is the hardest thing we build — it has to stay exactly where it should, and nowhere else.

Commissions

Water, held exactly where it belongs.

Real projects, photographed on site — every one hand-set by Edgar’s crew.

How we build it

The part you never see is the part that lasts.

01

Design the water first

Where it falls, where it collects and how it’s reached for service — drawn before any stone is ordered.

02

Hold the water

Basins built on reinforced footings and sealed; ponds and streams lined, with the liner protected under stone.

03

With the specialists

Pumps, filtration, lighting and electrical are installed by licensed specialists — we build the stone around them.

04

Set the stone

Coping, boulders and flagstone placed by hand so the edges read natural and the water reads deliberate.

05

Commission

Filled, tested and tuned until the water sounds the way it should.

The stone

Chosen to outlast the house.

  • Bluestone coping — the edge of a basin you can sit on
  • Natural boulders — for streams and ponds, placed one at a time
  • Cast and carved stone — tiered fountains, sourced to the design

Questions

Before you commission.

Do you install the pumps and electrical?

No — licensed specialists do. We build the stone, the basin and the chases they need, and coordinate the schedule.

Can a fountain sit in the middle of a motor court?

Yes, with its own footing and a basin designed for it. Our sample Potomac Estate drawing set shows one.

Is a koi pond a lot of maintenance?

Less when it’s built right: proper depth, filtration sized to the pond and stone edges that don’t shed soil into the water.

Can you rebuild an old fountain basin that leaks?

Often. We find where it’s losing water, rebuild that section on a sound base and re-set the coping.
