Columns, piers and mailboxes, built like the house.

Porch columns, driveway entry piers, gate piers and stone mailboxes — on their own footings below frost depth, laid plumb, and finished with bluestone caps cut to overhang every face evenly.

How we build it

The part you never see is the part that lasts.

01

A footing of its own

Every column and pier sits on a concrete footing below frost depth — never on a patio slab or loose fill.

02

A core that carries

Block or concrete core, reinforced where a gate hangs or a lantern is wired, with conduit set in before the stone goes on.

03

Laid plumb

Stone or brick laid course by course to a plumb line on every corner, so the column reads straight from the street.

04

Cut the cap

A bluestone or cast cap cut to overhang every face evenly, with a drip edge so water leaves the face.

05

Finish

Joints tooled, mailbox or lantern set, and the base finished tight to the walk or drive.

The stone

Chosen to outlast the house.

  • Natural fieldstone — random or coursed, the look of a stone wall turned upright
  • Blue Select bluestone — caps, and thin ashlar for a crisp, tailored column
  • Brick — to match the house, with stone or cast caps

Questions

Before you commission.

Can a mailbox column be built in stone?

Yes — stone or brick around the post or a cast box, on its own footing, with a bluestone cap. We check the post office’s height and setback guidance before we build.

Can you wire lanterns into the piers?

Yes. We set conduit in the core while we build; your electrician pulls the wire and connects the lantern.

Will a gate pier hold a heavy gate?

If it’s designed for it. Gate piers get a reinforced core and a deeper footing — the gate maker gives us the hinge loads.

Can you match our existing columns?

Usually. We source stone or brick to match and copy the coursing and the cap profile.
