The local standard

The entrance is the first impression.

Steps are measured, not eyeballed. Every riser in a run has to match within a fraction of an inch — your foot notices before your eye does. We rebuild front steps on footings below frost depth and set the treads to a string line, so the first thing a guest touches is solid.

Small lots, close neighbors. Drainage that leaves your patio can’t land on the house next door. We pitch every surface to a planned outlet. And for walls, fairfax County requires a permit for a residential retaining wall that holds back more than three feet of earth, and treats anything over four feet as an engineered, commercial-grade wall. We tell you on the site walk which side of that line your wall falls.

How it’s built

The part you never see is the part that lasts.

01

Excavate & reinforce

We dig to solid ground and build a reinforced, drained base.

02

Cut & shape

Each stone is measured and cut on the wet saw to its exact place.

03

Wet-set

Every stone is bedded in mortar, not sand — hand-fit and leveled.

04

Cap & level

Caps and edges set true by hand — the finish that locks it together.

05

Stand behind it

A clean site, an honest timeline, and a warranty in writing on every job.

Questions from Vienna homeowners

Before you commission.

Can you rebuild our front steps in bluestone?

Yes. We take the old steps down to sound footing, rebuild the base below frost depth and set bluestone treads and risers matched to code.

Our patio holds water. Can it be fixed?

Usually the base is the problem, not the stone. We lift the failed section, rebuild the base and drainage, and reset the stone matched to what’s there.

Do you build stone columns and piers?

Yes — for porches, gates and driveway entrances, with bluestone caps and lanterns wired in if you want them.

When should we book for spring?

Over the winter. Spring dates go to the clients who reserve first.

We also work in Oakton, Tysons, Falls Church, McLean and Dunn Loring — and across D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. See our work in McLean · Potomac · Falls Church · Arlington · Washington, D.C. · Bethesda · Chevy Chase · Great Falls · Alexandria
