The local standard

Two jurisdictions, one standard.

Chevy Chase straddles the District line. On the D.C. side, the District’s permit office and its tree rules apply. On the Maryland side, Montgomery County does — and several of the Chevy Chase towns and villages add their own review on top. We confirm which office your address answers to before a design is final.

Water is the hardest thing we build. A stream bed or a koi pond has to hold water exactly where it should and nowhere else — liner, base, boulders and flagstone set together so the water reads as if it has always been there. It’s the same discipline we bring to a front walk.

How it’s built

The part you never see is the part that lasts.

01

Excavate & reinforce

We dig to solid ground and build a reinforced, drained base.

02

Cut & shape

Each stone is measured and cut on the wet saw to its exact place.

03

Wet-set

Every stone is bedded in mortar, not sand — hand-fit and leveled.

04

Cap & level

Caps and edges set true by hand — the finish that locks it together.

05

Stand behind it

A clean site, an honest timeline, and a warranty in writing on every job.

Questions from Chevy Chase homeowners

Before you commission.

Which permits apply to a Chevy Chase project?

It depends on the side of the line. In D.C., the District’s rules apply, including permits for large trees. In Maryland, Montgomery County’s apply — and some Chevy Chase municipalities require their own approval as well. We confirm it for your address first.

Do you build ponds and water features?

Yes — stream beds, koi ponds and stone water features, built with the specialists for pumps and electrical. The koi garden above is ours.

Can you match our existing stone walls?

Usually. We source stone to match color, size and coursing, and rebuild the footing wherever the old one failed.

When should we reserve a spring start?

Over the winter. Spring dates are limited by how many projects Edgar can lead personally.

We also work in Bethesda, Kensington, Friendship Heights, Spring Valley and Northwest D.C. — and across D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. See our work in McLean · Potomac · Falls Church · Arlington · Washington, D.C. · Bethesda · Great Falls · Vienna · Alexandria
