3D landscape design: see it before it’s built.

A 3D model drawn from a measured plan lets you walk a terrace, a stair and a garden at any hour before a stone is ordered. Here’s what it shows, what it doesn’t, and what it costs.Commissioning3 min readOctober 2026

The short version
  • The 3D that matters is built from a scaled, measured plan — every wall height and riser is the real one.
  • Published national figures: a landscape design typically runs $2,200–$6,180; still 3D renderings add about $400–$500.
  • Two sample estates are live in 3D now: the Potomac Estate and the Tuscan Estate. Walk either one, at any hour.

Most people choose a six-figure garden from a few samples and their imagination. A 3D model changes that. You stand on the terrace, walk down the stair, look back at the house, and see the lights come on — before anything is built.

The 3D images on this page come from two illustrative sample Estate commissions — concept designs, not client projects. Final work is always per the signed proposal.

A picture, or a plan in 3D?

Not all 3D is the same. A pretty rendering can show stone that doesn’t fit the slope, stairs that wouldn’t pass code or walls with no footing. Ours starts from the drawing set: the property measured on site, the plan drawn to scale, every riser and wall height worked out. Then the 3D is built from that plan — so what you approve is what we can build.

What you see.

  • The whole garden from above, and every space at eye level.
  • Your stone choices on the walls, caps, steps and terraces.
  • Furniture, fireplaces, fountains and outdoor rooms at their true size.
  • The lighting plan, from golden hour to after dark.

Two estates. Walk either one.

Both samples are drawn to scale in Potomac and built in 3D — one formal, one Tuscan. Turn the time of day, switch the stone on the walls and the terraces, and walk every space yourself.

What it costs.

National guides put a landscape design at about $2,200 to $6,180, with still 3D renderings adding about $400 to $500. The Design Commission is priced for drawings you can build from: The Terrace $1,250, The Garden $2,950 (3D +$2,500), and The Estate from $9,500 with your home in 3D included. For our launch, the first three Estate commissions are $7,500.
